JC Chipeco, MA, LPCC
Therapist for immigrants, anxiety and trauma. Providing online counseling services in the State of Minnesota
Compassionate counseling for immigrants and individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, or life transitions. Virtual therapy to help you feel understood, heal, and create meaningful change.
I’m a Minnesota-based Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) who is honored to work with people experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma (PTSD), voice-hearing (psychosis), chemical health concerns, and immigration challenges.
My clients are the brave ones seeking to feel better, find meaning, and create positive change in their lives. So, if you are a person experiencing depression, anxiety, or addiction, if you are an immigrant who feels lonely and isolated and lost, or if you are simply a human trying to make sense of yourself and your place in the world, I’m here to support you each step of the way.
I’m especially passionate about immigration and acculturation mental health. As an immigrant myself, I understand the challenges of adapting to a new culture, balancing identities, and finding belonging. Supporting fellow immigrants in their healing, growth and personal transformation is deeply meaningful to me.
If you’re ready to take a step toward healing, growth, and understanding, I invite you to schedule a consultation or reach out today.
JC’s Therapeutic Approach
Drawing from my passion for literature, philosophy, and counseling, I believe psychotherapy is an unfolding process of discovering a meaningful life.
You'll find in me an active and empathic listener, a kind and non-judgmental spirit, and a gentle teacher. I'll be here - waiting with compassion, humility, and hopefully, a little bit of humor.
I believe therapy encompasses the whole gamut of emotions, so I am ready to cry with you, be excited with you, and also laugh with you, as well.

Therapy modalities JC uses
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps you stop battling your thoughts and feelings so you can focus on living the life you want. Instead of waiting to “feel better” before moving forward, ACT teaches you how to accept your emotions, make room for them, and still take meaningful steps toward what matters most.
-
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world.

-
CBT is a proven approach that helps you see how your thoughts affect your feelings and actions. By shifting unhelpful patterns, you’ll gain tools to manage depression and anxiety and build healthier habits. With your therapist’s guidance, you’ll practice strategies in and out of sessions to create lasting change.
-
Culturally Sensitive Therapy recognizes that everyone’s background shapes their values, beliefs, and experiences. Therapists tailor their approach to honor these differences, supporting individuals and families in a respectful and understanding way.
-
Humanistic Therapy takes a positive view of human nature, focusing on your unique potential. By exploring creativity, love, and self-growth, it helps you achieve meaningful change and self-directed development. This approach includes methods like Gestalt, client-centered, and existential therapy.
-
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) combines cognitive therapy and mindfulness to help clients with chronic pain, hypertension, heart disease, cancer, anxiety, and depression. By noticing thoughts and feelings without judgment, MBCT reduces stress, improves pain management, and helps you respond to life’s challenges with greater clarity and choice.
-
Motivational Interviewing (MI) helps clients find their own motivation to change behaviors. By exploring ambivalence and considering new possibilities, clients are guided—rather than directed—toward positive change. MI is often used for challenges like problem drinking and mild addictions.
-
Multicultural Counseling emphasizes understanding and respecting the values, experiences, and lifestyles of diverse groups. It addresses differences in race, culture, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status, supporting clients without expecting them to conform to the counselor’s perspective.
-
Psychodynamic Therapy, or insight-oriented therapy, helps clients bring unconscious thoughts and feelings into awareness to gain insight and resolve conflicts. Shorter and less intensive than traditional psychoanalysis, it also uses the therapist-client relationship to explore patterns in how clients relate to others.
-
Strength-Based Therapy focuses on your strengths and resourcefulness rather than weaknesses. By building on your best qualities, it enhances resilience, fosters a positive mindset, and helps you approach yourself and others with more balanced, realistic expectations.
-
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) helps individuals experiencing post-traumatic stress after a traumatic event process their experiences, reduce distress, and regain a sense of safety and well-being.
